Customs duty from the USA

The USA is outside the EU. Parcels from there can therefore trigger VAT, customs duty and, from 1 November 2026, also the EU handling fee. If you buy while travelling and bring the goods home, the travel rules apply instead.

Parcels from the USA

  • Import VAT of 25% of the goods, shipping, customs duty and fees.
  • Under EUR 150: normally EUR 3 in customs duty per item (customs tariff line).
  • Over EUR 150: customs duty based on commodity code, origin and customs value.

When the webshop says 'all inclusive'

Some webshops charge customs duty and VAT at checkout (DDP). Then it does not have to be paid again – but keep the documentation. Without documentation, we do not count the amount as paid.

Purchases while travelling

If you bring the goods home in your luggage, the value limits for travellers apply. See customs at the airport.
