New EU handling fee of EUR 2 per item
From 1 November 2026, an EU handling fee of EUR 2 per item (customs tariff line) is charged on covered e-commerce goods from countries outside the EU. The fee is not the same as the carrier's own fee.
In short
- EUR 2 per item from 1 November 2026.
- Applies both above and below EUR 150 for covered e-commerce goods.
- Formally, it is normally paid by the webshop or the importer, but it may be passed on to you.
- It is the date of the customs declaration that counts – not the date of purchase.
EUR 3 plus EUR 2
From 1 November 2026, the same private consignment of no more than EUR 150 may be subject to both EUR 3 in customs duty and EUR 2 in fees per item – a total of EUR 5 per item before VAT. VAT and any carrier's clearance fee come on top.
Is it the carrier's fee?
No. The carrier may charge its own administration fee for customs clearance. This is not an official rate and depends on the carrier and the payment method. Read more about carrier's clearance fees.
Do I get the fee back if I return the goods?
The EU handling fee is not refunded simply because goods are returned. This applies to the EU handling fee – not necessarily to the carrier's own fee.
